{"id":336488,"date":"2026-07-11T01:49:22","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T01:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/336488\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T01:49:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T01:49:22","slug":"victim-of-assault-on-miami-beachs-beachwalk-assault-reflects-on-incident-after-1-of-2-suspects-is-convicted-wsvn-7news-miami-news-weather-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/336488\/","title":{"rendered":"Victim of assault on Miami Beach\u2019s Beachwalk assault reflects on incident after 1 of 2 suspects is convicted &#8211; WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New video shows the moment two men <a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/local\/miami-dade\/woman-describes-chilling-moments-after-being-assaulted-by-2-men-in-miami-beach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">assaulted a woman<\/a> who was headed to work on Miami Beach, and now the victim is speaking out after one of her attackers was convicted.<\/p>\n<p>City of Miami Beach surveillance video, obtained exclusively by 7News, shows part of the crime that occurred April 9 along the Beachwalk.<\/p>\n<p>Victim Fay Ramlawi Benton briefly encounters two men before one of them places his hand on her body. She is then seen breaking free and escaping.<\/p>\n<p>While much of the assault is obscured by trees, Ramlawi Benton said the men grabbed and groped her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat gentleman had me here, and they were both grabbing me, and I think they were trying to get me into the bushes,\u201d she told 7News in April after the incident. \u201cI kept on screaming and screaming. I remember saying, \u2018 Get off me. \u2018 I remember saying, \u2018 Help. \u2018 I remember saying, \u2018 Stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the victim told 7News that one of the attackers arrested in the case, Misael Vargas, was convicted of battery. Court records confirm it.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to 7News on Wednesday, Ramlawi Benton said her daily route to work reminds her of the terrifying attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the route I take it to work, so every day I am reminded of that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Body camera footage shows Vargas\u2019 arrest, blocks away from where police said he grabbed and groped Ramlawi Benton.<\/p>\n<p>The battery case against the second suspect, Christopher Martinez, has since been dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, we all know that the system is broken,\u201d said Ramlawi Benton<\/p>\n<p>Although the battery charge against Martinez was dismissed, he was arrested soon after in a separate incident for disorderly conduct on Collins Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>According to the arrest report, he continued \u201capproaching female patrons inside [a] business, making them feel uncomfortable. As a result, several patrons left the establishment prematurely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Wednesday night, his case is pending. That alleged crime could be added to his long rap sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Miami Beach commissioners have <a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/local\/miami-dade\/unforgivable-miami-beach-lawmakers-demand-action-after-arrests-of-2-repeat-offenders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">previously criticized<\/a> what they describe as a revolving door in the Miami-Dade criminal justice system, saying that offenders like Vargas and Martinez continue to cycle through the courts.<\/p>\n<p>As for Ramlawi Benton, the emotional recovery continues long after the attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to take, um, different steps for myself, just for my own mental well-being,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Both Vargas and Martinez remain behind bars in Miami-Dade jail as of late Wednesday night. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Sunbeam Television Corp.
