{"id":336572,"date":"2026-07-11T03:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T03:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/336572\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T03:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T03:18:10","slug":"former-miami-dade-transit-worker-sentenced-to-life-plus-60-years-for-2009-kidnapping-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/336572\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Miami-Dade transit worker sentenced to life plus 60 years for 2009 kidnapping, rape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Published:\u00a0July 10, 2026 at 10:44 PM<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Miami-Dade judge sentenced a former Miami-Dade County transit employee to life in prison plus 60 years Friday for the 2009 kidnapping and rape of an 18-year-old pregnant woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Greg Martin was sentenced by 11th Judicial Circuit Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez after a jury found him guilty on all counts, rejecting his claim that the encounter was consensual.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On the advice of his defense attorney, Martin declined to address the court before the sentence was imposed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The victim, whose identity is being withheld, delivered an emotional statement during the hearing, describing the lasting impact of the attack while also expressing hope that Martin could change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI do not understand what made you have a heart so dark,\u201d she told Martin. \u201cI just know that what you did really hurt, and it was really hard because there was a point that I lost myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She added, \u201cWe all have a chance to change, and I believe and have faith that you can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Martin also faces a separate capital murder case in Miami-Dade County. Prosecutors accuse him of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl in 2000.
