The Current apparently left its goal-scoring acumen behind in Kansas City for Friday night\u2019s National Women\u2019s Soccer League match in Florida, falling 3-0 to the host Pride at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando.<\/p>\n
Before an announced crowd of 8,058, the Pride took nearly half as many shots as the Current but made them count. KC had 20 shots overall, nine on goal but none in the net; Orlando took 11 and was on-target with five \u2014 especially so with three.<\/p>\n
The first goal by the Pride (6-6-2) came in the 49th minute, with Brazilian star Marta doing the honors. The second came courtesy of Hannah Anderson in the 57th minute and Barbra Banda delivered the final blow in the 85th.<\/p>\n
The Current (8-6-0) drew three offsides flags in the game, which included an hour-long weather delay and was scoreless at halftime.<\/p>\n
Midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo returned to the field as a second-half substitute, seeing her first game action in more than a year. She gave birth to a daughter in January and had just returned to the Current\u2019s active roster this week from maternity leave. She wore the captain\u2019s armband upon entering Friday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n
Before Kansas City takes the field again, two-time reigning NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga will represent the Current in this year\u2019s ESPY Awards. The ESPYs are Wednesday and Chawinga, the Current\u2019s superstar forward, is up for Best Soccer Player; fan voting remains open<\/a>.<\/p>\n Next up: The Current returns home after two post-break road matches, playing host to the San Diego Wave on Friday, July 17 \u2014 KC\u2019s first home game in about two months.
