{"id":33688,"date":"2025-11-05T02:04:23","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T02:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/33688\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T02:04:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T02:04:23","slug":"roger-chapin-and-mira-tanna-are-heading-to-a-run-off-for-orlando-city-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/33688\/","title":{"rendered":"Roger Chapin and Mira Tanna are heading to a run off for Orlando City Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Roger Chapin and Mira Tanna will face each other in a December runoff following the razor-thin margin in Tuesday\u2019s election for Orlando City Council\u2019s District 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is Chapin, the candidate with the deeper pockets and a legacy last name, versus Tanna, who won the endorsement from progressive Democrats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The difference between them? Thirteen votes, according to the unofficial election results.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chapin won 2,477, or 34.01% of the vote, versus Tanna\u2019s 2,464, which is 33.83% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">They emerged as the top two candidates out of a field of five candidates to replace Commissioner Robert Stuart,\u00a0who did not seek <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/737315-robert-stuart-wont-seek-another-term-on-orlando-city-council\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a sixth term<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhdfirm.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/20-MHD-Florida-Politics-V1_1-728x90-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-316235\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">District 3 covers Baldwin Park, Audubon Park, College Park, Rosemont and other neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The four-year City Commission term pays $79,343 annually.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chapin, the son of former Orange County Mayor Linda Chapin, raised the most money by far with a war chest of more than $219,000 and won the endorsements of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/756212-inn-their-corner-hotel-group-backs-jim-gray-roger-chapin-and-shan-rose-for-orlando-races\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/10\/31\/endorsement-orlando-should-stay-its-course-with-gray-chapin\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Orlando Sentinel\u2019s editorial board<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSome who haven\u2019t been following this race might quickly dismiss Chapin after learning that he\u2019s the son of local political powerhouse Linda Chapin, Orange County\u2019s first elected Chair. That would miss the point entirely,\u201d the Sentinel\u2019s Oct. 31 endorsement said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRoger Chapin may have learned local government at his mom\u2019s knee, but he stands on the merits of his own involvement that reaches across a wide array of charitable organizations and civic groups. Most notably, he\u2019s on the Orlando Utilities Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/floridaphosphate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-724003 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/FPC_FL-POLITICS-DISPLAY_728x90_MAR.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tanna, however, picked up endorsements from Sen.\u00a0Carlos Guillermo Smith, Rep.\u00a0Anna Eskamani, community advocate and popular food blogger\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tastychomps.com\/author\/tastychomps\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Ricky Ly<\/a>, and other Democratic elected officials for the nonpartisan Orlando City Council race. Tanna has raised more than $57,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019ve worked with Mira at City Hall and seen firsthand her commitment to fair housing and tackling our city\u2019s housing crisis,\u201d Eskamani wrote in her endorsement. \u201cShe has also been effective in bringing new resources to our community to address critical issues, such as flood mitigation, congestion, public safety, and more.
