A heat advisory will be in effect across parts of South Florida from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday as dangerously hot and humid conditions push heat index values into the triple digits.<\/p>\n
Local 10 Meteorologist Jennifer Collins said residents and visitors should keep heat safety in mind, especially if they plan to spend extended time outdoors.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnother hot one for today, really one of those days we\u2019re in the middle of summer now,\u201d Collins said. \u201cYou really got to think heat safety out there, especially if you\u2019re spending a lot of time outside for today.\u201d<\/p>\n
The advisory comes as heat index values are expected to soar as high as 110 degrees in some communities, even though actual air temperatures will remain in the upper 80s and low 90s, according to the National Weather Service<\/a>. <\/p>\n Saturday began with more clouds than recent mornings after overnight rain helped cool temperatures slightly. Early morning readings were in the low to mid-80s, including 85 degrees in Miami and 84 degrees in Homestead.<\/p>\n \u201cWe woke up cooler this morning compared to yesterday morning,\u201d Collins said. \u201cThat\u2019s because of all the rain we had last night. And that actually dropped our temperatures for the start of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n Cloud cover lingered along the coasts of Miami-Dade and Broward counties Saturday morning, but conditions remained dry.<\/p>\n Despite the clouds, temperatures are expected to climb through the day while humidity keeps conditions oppressive. Rain chances are expected to stay fairly low.<\/p>\n Collins urged anyone spending time outside to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and practice heat safety throughout the advisory period.<\/p>\n
