The Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office is conducting a death investigation at the Brandon Exchange.<\/p>\n

On July 10, 2026, at 4:28 p.m., our 911 Dispatch Center received a call from an employee at Dick\u2019s House of Sport reporting a shooting inside the store.<\/p>\n

Within four minutes of receiving the call, deputies arrived on scene and located a deceased male inside a fitting room. Two minutes later, deputies detained two individuals believed to be involved.<\/p>\n

The preliminary investigation revealed the three individuals entered Dick\u2019s House of Sport together and went into a fitting room. Moments later, employees reported hearing a gun shot. Surveillance video then shows two of the individuals fleeing the store into the parking lot.<\/p>\n

At least 33 deputies, including members of our K-9 Unit, responded to the scene.<\/p>\n

The Brandon Exchange shopping center remained open and continued normal operations through its regular closing time.<\/p>\n

“There is absolutely no tolerance for violence in Hillsborough County, especially in places where families gather to shop and spend time together,”\u00a0said Sheriff Chad Chronister.\u00a0“Our deputies’ training prepared them to respond immediately, secure the scene, detain those involved within minutes, and bring\u00a0order to a dangerous situation.”<\/p>\n

\nChief Deputy Joseph Maurer briefed the media from the scene and the video is included above for media use.<\/p>\n

This is an active investigation. Any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.<\/p>\n
