The National Weather Service told WINK News that they received a phone report from a member of the public describing a possible landspout. However, forecasters say they have not received enough photos, videos, or other evidence to verify exactly what was seen.<\/p>\n
That highlights an important part of the weather verification process.<\/p>\n
While reports frequently come in from trained spotters and members of the public, confirmation often requires additional evidence. Photos, videos, damage reports, and multiple eyewitness accounts can help meteorologists determine whether a weather event actually occurred.<\/p>\n

Landspouts are different from the stronger tornadoes often associated with supercell thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

These brief tornado-like circulations are most common during the summer rainy season when colliding sea breeze boundaries create pockets of rotation near the ground. Under the right conditions, that rotation can become stretched upward beneath developing thunderstorms, producing a landspout.<\/p>\n
