GAINESVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Florida Gators guard Kiyomi McMiller<\/a> and forward Aurora Alm\u00f3n are off to Managua, Nicaragua this week where they will take part in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Centrobasket Qualifier<\/a>. McMiller is a member of the Nicaraguan Senior National Team, while Alm\u00f3n is playing for the Dominican Republic.

\nThe Qualifier runs from July 12-18, and features the top eight teams from Central America and the Caribbean vying for a place in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027. Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic are in Group A as are Mexico and the Bahamas. Group B consists of Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Guyana and the Virgin Islands.

\n\tEach team will play one game against everyone in their group.
\n\tThe first place teams from each group will advance directly to the semifinals
\n\tThe last place teams from each group will play for fifth to eighth place
\n\tThe second place teams will face the third place teams from the opposite group (2B vs. 3A, and 2A vs. 3B).
\n\tThe winners will advance to the semifinals to face the group leaders, while the losers will join the last place teams for positions five through eight <\/p>\n

The top three teams at the end of the competition will secure qualifications for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 and will join El Salvador, which has already qualified for the tournament as host of the continental tournament.

\nAlm\u00f3n and the Dominican Republic begin Group Phase play vs. The Bahamas on Sunday, July 12 at 6 p.m. ET, while McMiller and Nicaragua tip off that same evening against Mexico at 8:30 p.m.
