{"id":338353,"date":"2026-07-13T13:00:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T13:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/338353\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T13:00:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T13:00:24","slug":"biessel-named-faculty-athletics-representative-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/338353\/","title":{"rendered":"Biessel Named Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Adam Beissel, an Associate Professor of Sport Leadership &amp; Management at Miami University, has been named the Faculty Athletics Representative.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n&#8220;I look forward to serving in this role as the primary liaison\u00a0between Academic Affairs and Miami Athletics,&#8221; said Beissel. &#8220;As a faculty member in a department with\u00a0many student-athletes, I work\u00a0with them regularly in the classroom and am a strong advocate for their holistic well-being. My academic background in sport administration will help me to ensure that the athletic program abides by\u00a0NCAA and conference regulations, particularly as the collegiate sports landscape continues to evolve and seems ever-changing. Moreover, I&#8217;m committed to serving as a strong voice for the institution when representing Miami at MAC and NCHC meetings and conferences when discussing matters of intercollegiate athletics.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nEarning his PhD in Sport Studies at the University of Otago, Dr. Beissel gained international recognition as a leading scholar in the geopolitics of sport and the political economy of international sport mega-events. He has published two edited books and 39 peer-reviewed publications, including 32 since joining the faculty at Miami University in 2017.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHis most recent research involves an interdisciplinary project\u00a0that critically examines the cultural and political economies of the 2023 FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup,\u00a0held in Australia and New Zealand. In 2023, he published a co-edited monograph,\u00a0The 2023 FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup: Politics, Representation, and Management\u00a0in the Routledge Series on Women, Sport, and Physical Activity (with Verity Postlethwaite, Andrew Grainger, and Julie Brice).<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n&#8220;I am excited to welcome Adam into the fold for this important role in support of Miami Athletics and our talented student-athletes,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/miamiredhawks.com\/staff-directory\/david-sayler\/179\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"179\" target=\"_blank\">David Sayler<\/a>, Miami&#8217;s Director of Athletics. &#8220;His experience on campus as a faculty member and serving on several committees combined with his experiences involving sport on many levels, make him a great choice to serve as our Faculty Athletic Representative as we continue our mission to Graduate Champions.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nA second co-edited book, focusing on the events during and after the event, was published in 2025 entitled:\u00a0Critical Perspectives on the 2023 FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup: Events, Issues, and Controversies in the Routledge Series on Women, Sport, and Physical Activity\u00a0(with Julie Brice, Verity Postlethwaite, and Andrew Grainger).<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nDr. Beissel&#8217;s current research critically examines the geopolitical economy of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
