MAITLAND, Fla. \u2013 After years of studies, there may finally be a path forward to ease traffic and mobility issues in downtown Maitland \u2014 an area drivers and pedestrians say feels chaotic and even dangerous.<\/p>\n
Downtown Maitland has become a major congestion point, especially during rush hour \u2014 with safety concerns for drivers, cyclists and people on foot.<\/p>\n

A new multimodal transportation study (cars, bikes, pedestrians) highlights problem areas and crash history.<\/p>\n
Crash data shows that from 2018 to 2022, Maitland Avenue (Orlando Avenue to Sandspur) recorded 138 crashes, including one fatal crash.<\/p>\n
The report recommends multiple changes, including intersection reconstruction<\/p>\n
\u201cI see accidents all the time,\u201d said Perez.<\/p>\n
A key concern: crossing George Avenue at Maitland Avenue.<\/p>\n
The report proposed constructing a crosswalk.<\/p>\n
\u201cWould you feel comfortable crossing Maitland Avenue without a crosswalk?\u201d asked News 6\u2019s Amy Russo. <\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, I do it. But no, you\u2019re always making sure that you\u2019re not getting run over,\u201d replied Perez.<\/p>\n
Another hotspot: Packwood Avenue at Orlando Avenue \/ US 17-92.<\/p>\n
The report suggests creating one lane each for right, left and through traffic. <\/p>\n
City leaders are expected to discuss the study on Monday. The report contains additional recommendations for downtown Maitland.<\/p>\n
