{"id":338374,"date":"2026-07-13T13:24:35","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T13:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/338374\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T13:24:35","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T13:24:35","slug":"tampa-ballplayer-has-perfect-end-to-his-high-school-career","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/338374\/","title":{"rendered":"Tampa ballplayer has perfect end to his high school career"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">TAMPA, Fla. &#8212; The pitching mound is Mathew Altman\u2019s happy place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">This past season, the Gaither High School senior was unbeatable on the mound, earning an honorable mention for the prestigious Wade Boggs Award given to Hillsborough County\u2019s top Student-Athlete.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">Mathew finished the year with a perfect 13-0 record, number one in both the state of Florida and the nation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">&#8220;It took a lot of deep breaths before the game, praying, it\u2019s just unbelievable pressure,&#8221; Altman said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">Junior Catcher Jose Gutierrez caught every game the senior threw, and their bond was instrumental in his success.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">&#8220;As a catcher you can tell what the pitchers feeling and how he\u2019s throwing the ball,&#8221;\u00a0Gutierrez said. &#8220;After all the times, I\u2019ve caught him I know when he\u2019s on and when sometimes he\u2019s struggling to find the zone, especially with one pitch.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">Armed with a 90-plus fastball and a five-pitch arsenal, Altman\u2019s next stop is FAMU, where he is already enrolled and getting ready for the start of his college career.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TAMPA, Fla. &#8212; The pitching mound is Mathew Altman\u2019s happy place.
