GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Headlined by right-handed pitcher Liam Peterson<\/a> as the 21st first-round pick in program history (27th counting the secondary phase), a total of six Florida Gators had their names called at the 2026 MLB Draft in Philadelphia, Penn.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Going to the Cleveland Guardians with the 19th overall pick in the first round, Peterson was followed by teammates Kyle Jones<\/a>\u00a0(Round 3, Pick 102 \u2013 Milwaukee Brewers), Russell Sandefer<\/a> (Round 4, Pick 132 \u2013 Los Angeles Dodgers), Luke McNeillie<\/a>\u00a0(Round 5, Pick 152 \u2013 New York Mets), Hayden Yost<\/a>\u00a0(Round 5, Pick 162 \u2013 Seattle Mariners) and Blake Cyr<\/a> (Round 18, Pick 548 \u2013 New York Yankees).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Following the Draft, MLB teams have until Monday, July 27 at 5 p.m. ET to agree to deals with players they selected\u00a0out of four-year colleges and high schools. As for those who went undrafted,\u00a0teams still can sign players to free agent deals, which do not count against an organization’s signing bonus pool as long as a player signs for $150,000 or less.<\/p>\n

\nThe Florida Gators added a new name to their lengthy list of first round MLB Draft choices on Saturday afternoon when the Cleveland Guardians selected Peterson with the 19th overall pick.<\/p>\n

Becoming the 21st first-round pick in team history (27th including the secondary phase), Peterson holds status as the fifth-highest pitcher and 10th-highest player to be drafted in program history. The only UF pitchers to have been chosen earlier than Peterson are A.J. Puk (2016), John Burke (1991), Brady Singer (2018) and Alex Faedo (2017). Peterson is the eighth-highest pick of the Kevin O’Sullivan era (2008-present).<\/p>\n

With Peterson going to Cleveland, he stands as the 117th MLB draft pick across O’Sullivan’s 19-year tenure and the 65th pitcher alone for an average of over three hurlers per season. Peterson represents O’Sullivan’s 24th pitcher to be selected in the first five rounds, which ranks third nationally since 2008. In that span, the Gators’ 15 first-round picks are the second-most in the country.<\/p>\n

As a native of Palm Harbor, Fla., Peterson is the 232nd individual draft choice in team history. Excluding the 2020 Draft, at least one Gator has been selected every year since 1997 featuring multiple UF players in every draft dating back to 1998.<\/p>\n

Serving as a weekend starter for all three seasons in Orange & Blue, Peterson made 50 career appearances while working to a 5.03 ERA, .255 batting average against and 284-to-112 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 216 2\/3 innings pitched. Peterson’s 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings rank fifth in program history.<\/p>\n

Pitching in his true junior campaign, Peterson started 16 games in 2026 while notching career highs in innings pitched (84 1\/3) and strikeouts (111) \u2013 the latter of which paced the squad. He concluded the season ranking eighth in the SEC in strikeouts, ninth in games started and 13th in strikeouts per nine (11.9). During his final eight outings, Peterson completed seven frames three times featuring his first-career, complete-game victory at LSU on May 15.

Kyle Jones<\/a> | Round 3, Pick 102\u00a0| Milwaukee Brewers
\nJones was the second Gator to come off the board at the 2026 MLB Draft, as the Milwaukee Brewers selected him with the 102nd overall pick in the third round on Saturday evening. Jones’ selection as the 102nd pick makes him the ninth-highest UF outfielder to be drafted in team history including the highest across the past three seasons.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Jones represents the 233rd individual draft choice in program history and the 118th of the Kevin O’Sullivan era (2008-present). Excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 MLB Draft, Florida has produced multiple draft picks every year since 1998.<\/p>\n

Playing his first-full season in Orange & Blue in 2026, Jones started 58 games while making 56 of his 57 starts in center field. The Athens, Ga. native paced Florida in batting average (.317), doubles (16), stolen bases (17), sacrifice flies (six) and multi-hit games (22) across 224 at bats, which ranked second on the team. Slugging .478 with a .418 on-base percentage, Jones belted a career-high six homers on top of 71 hits, 58 runs, 46 RBI, 33 walks and 14 multi-RBI efforts.<\/p>\n

As the catalyst of the offense, Jones reached base 42 times in 111 plate appearances leading off innings for a .382 OBP. He also fielded to a perfect 1.000 clip over 113 defensive chances in center field.<\/p>\n

Across his three-year college career at Stetson (2024) and Florida (2025-26), Jones slashed .336\/.437\/.473 in 124 games. The 2024 Freshman All-American totaled 11 homers, one triple, 32 doubles, 114 runs, 80 RBI and 40 steals over 488 at bats while posting a .997 fielding percentage.

Russell Sandefer<\/a> | Round 4, Pick 132\u00a0| Los Angeles Dodgers
\nThe Los Angeles Dodgers nabbed Sandefer\u00a0with the 132nd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The Tampa, Fla. native marks the 234th individual draft choice in program history and the 119th of the Kevin O’Sullivan era (2008-present). Sandefer is the 66th pitcher chosen in the MLB Draft during O’Sullivan’s 19-year tenure, including the 25th selected in the first five rounds.<\/p>\n

With Sandefer’s selection, the Orange & Blue has recorded at least three draft picks in every season of O’Sullivan’s 19-year tenure \u2013 a streak which dates back 25 years through the 2002 MLB Draft (excluding the COVID-shortened, 2020 Draft).<\/p>\n

In his lone campaign as a Gator after transferring from UCF, Sandefer pitched in 19 games highlighted by 12 starts, 10 of which came as a member of the weekend rotation. Holding opposing hitters to a .240 batting average, the junior righty finished with a 3-2 record, 4.42 ERA and 1.30 WHIP while recording 60 strikeouts to 22 walks in 57.0 innings. Surrendering just four long balls all season, Sandefer allowed 0.6 homers per nine innings in addition to 9.5 strikeouts per nine, 3.5 walks per nine and a 2.7 strikeout-to-walk ratio.<\/p>\n

Sandefer was named to the Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team after earning the win against Rider on May 29 behind 5 2\/3 shutout frames with two hits allowed, one walk and five strikeouts. His best performance of the season came vs. Ole Miss on April 4, when he set career highs with 7.0 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts while scattering two hits and one walk.

\n\u00a0 \n<\/p>\n

Luke McNeillie<\/a> | Round 5, Pick 152\u00a0| New York Mets
\nHailing from Milton, Ga., McNeillie represents the 235th individual draft choice in team history including the 120th of the Kevin O’Sullivan era (2008-present). McNeillie\u00a0was the third UF hurler chosen in the first five rounds of this year’s MLB Draft and the 26th during O’Sullivan’s 19-year tenure. He marks the 67th pitcher selected out of Florida under O’Sullivan.<\/p>\n

Thanks to McNeillie, Florida has now registered at least four draft picks in 17 of the last 18 years, only failing to do so in the abbreviated 2020 MLB Draft.<\/p>\n

Lowering his ERA in each season of his three-year Gators career, McNeillie turned in a 3.97 ERA across 18 appearances (three starts) spanning 34.0 frames in his junior 2026 campaign. Turning in a 3-0 record and one save, the hard-throwing righty fanned 48 batters to 17 walks for 12.7 strikeouts per nine and a 2.82 strikeout-to-walk ratio. McNeillie surrendered less than one home run per nine innings (0.8 HR\/9) while fielding to a perfect 1.000 clip across five defensive chances on the hill.<\/p>\n

Across three seasons in Orange & Blue from 2024-26, McNeillie pitched in 72 games \u2013 seven of which were stars. He finished his UF tenure with a 12-8 record, four saves, 5.24 ERA and 163-to-62 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 122.0 innings.

\n\u00a0 \n<\/p>\n

Hayden Yost<\/a> | Round 5, Pick 162\u00a0| Seattle Mariners
\nTen picks after McNeillie’s name was called, Yost was nabbed by Seattle with the 162nd overall pick. The Tampa, Fla. native holds status as the 236th individual draft choice in team history including the 121st of the O’Sullivan era (2008-present).<\/p>\n

With Yost’s selection, the Gators have produced at least five draft picks in each of the last four\u00a0years (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026), and in 15\u00a0of the last 18 MLB Drafts since 2009.<\/p>\n

Finishing his true junior campaign with a bang this past spring, Yost homered 10 times across his final 24 starts to finish with an average of 10.7 at bats per homer on the season. Playing in 42 games while making 30 starts in the UF outfield, Yost slashed .262\/.369\/.589 with career highs in OPS (.958), slugging percentage (.589) and long balls. Of his 28 hits, 15 went for extra bases (53.6%) and 10 left the yard (35.7%). He also tallied five doubles, 28 runs scored, 23 RBI, three sacrifice flies and three stolen bases while drawing nearly as many combined walks (12) and hit-by-pitches (eight) as strikeouts (21).<\/p>\n

Posting a 1.000 fielding percentage in 2026, Yost fielded at a .996 clip across 246 defensive chances in his career on top of five outfield assists. Over three years in Orange & Blue, he played in 134 games highlighted by 99 starts and batted .264\/.381\/.444 with 14 homers, 23 doubles, 77 runs and 65 RBI. Yost also swiped 21 bags in 27 attempts.

Blake Cyr<\/a> | Round 18, Pick 548\u00a0| New York Yankees
\nFresh off a stellar senior year, Cyr came off the board at the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday evening as the 548th overall pick in the 18th round to the New York Yankees.<\/p>\n

As a result of Cyr’s selection, Florida has produced six-plus draft picks in four of the last six drafts, including three of the last four (2021, 2023, 2025, 2026). The Orange & Blue has had at least six draftees in 14 of the last 18 years since 2009. Cyr represents the 237th individual draft choice in team history including the 122nd of the Kevin O’Sullivan era (2008-present).<\/p>\n

Cyr produced a career year in his senior campaign, setting highs in batting average (.316), hits (68), doubles (15) and runs (53) while swatting 14 homers. Posting a .398 on-base percentage and slugging .591, Cyr led the Gators with seven three-hit games and 17 multi-RBI efforts while sitting second in multi-hit contests (21). He also chipped in 30 extra-base hits, one triple, 58 RBI and 20 walks while swiping six bags and did not commit an error until the final game of the season, finishing with a .990 fielding percentage and one outfield assist.<\/p>\n

Across four collegiate seasons, Cyr appeared in 200 games while making 198 starts and slashed .291\/.395\/.545. He racked up 208 career hits, 47 home runs, 39 doubles, 176 RBI, 170 runs, 99 walks and 17 stolen bases in 715 at bats.<\/p>\n
