It also includes participation from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. Now in its ninth year, the initiative aims to remind drivers of the consequences of speeding and other traffic violations. Drivers can expect to see an increased law enforcement presence on the roads this week. Officers will be looking for drivers violating traffic laws, not just those speeding. Last year, the campaign resulted in over 50,000 speeding citations and warnings, as well as stops for DUIs and distracted driving. Florida’s super speeder law, which went into effect just over a year ago, emphasizes the importance of adhering to speed limits. Drivers going 50 mph over the speed limit or exceeding 100 mph will face arrest instead of receiving a ticket. Florida leaders will speak at Daytona International Speedway on Monday to officially launch the week-long campaign. Until then, drivers who encounter speeding vehicles can report them by calling *FHP or *347.

      DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —

Operation Southern Slow Down, an annual safety campaign by the Florida Department of Transportation, begins Monday at Daytona International Speedway to encourage drivers to follow traffic laws and reduce speeding.

The campaign is a collaboration between the Florida Highway Patrol, state and local law enforcement agencies.

It also includes participation from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Now in its ninth year, the initiative aims to remind drivers of the consequences of speeding and other traffic violations.

Drivers can expect to see an increased law enforcement presence on the roads this week.
