Social Mobile, a global creator of enterprise mobility solutions, is now NEXA<\/a>, a name that better reflects its future \u2013 not its past. But what hasn\u2019t changed for this South Florida tech company: a commitment to innovation and strategic growth that is showing big results.<\/p>\n

Founder and CEO Robert Morcos said the rebrand \u2013<\/a> completed last month \u00a0\u2013 \u00a0has been a long time coming. The name Social Mobile was perfect when the company was founded in 2011. Back then, the company was creating consumer phones with a dedicated \u201csocial launcher\u201d button to connect users with their favorite networks. But it hasn\u2019t been doing those types of devices for almost a decade, Morcos said. More importantly, the company over time evolved into a pioneer in enterprise mobility, delivering private-label devices and end-to-end mobility services for some of the world\u2019s largest organizations.<\/p>\n

The name change was long overdue, Morcos said. One telecom executive thought Social Mobile was a dating app. And piling on to that, his mother kept calling the company Social Media \u2014 \u201cmy own mother.\u201d It was a two-year process to complete the rebrand. \u00a0\u201cI think we turned down about 100 different options before we finally got to NEXA, and we were like, this is perfect,\u201d Morcos said in an interview with Refresh Miami. \u201cIt felt good.\u201d<\/p>\n

NEXA has now deployed more than 15 million devices deployed worldwide across healthcare, transportation, logistics, public safety, and defense, for enterprises seeking devices tailored to their unique operational, security, and compliance requirements.\u00a0For them, NEXA delivers private-label mobility solutions, including handhelds, tablets, wearables, and IoT devices designed in the USA, globally certified, and built for long-term deployment.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, our business is entirely focused on enterprise mobility \u2013 designing and deploying purpose-built solutions that help our clients scale globally,\u201d Morcos said. \u201cThe name NEXA signals our commitment to building the next generation of enterprise innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In in the works is NEXA\u2019s imminent acquisition of San Diego-based Sonim Technologies. Sonim makes rugged phones and mobile devices used by first responders, government agencies, and industries that need durable equipment, and these products will be added to Social Mobile\u2019s offerings after the acquisition closes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s expected to close in weeks, not months. This was really strategic for us: It puts us into the first responder vertical and it aligns with overall enterprise, which is what we do,\u201d Morcos explains. \u201cThey\u2019re also a known global brand, which helps us get into channels we historically have not been in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morcos said the plan is to acquire Sonim, a public company, and take it private. As for NEXA, Morcos said, \u201cit makes sense to stay private, at least for now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently, NEXA has \u00a0about 120 employees, and about half of them work at the company\u2019s custom-built 20,000-square-foot South Florida design and engineering hub in Hollywood. But after the acquisition, NEXA would likely swell to about 250 employees, Morcos said. The company was already global but will have about six offices after the acquisition, including in India, China and Taiwan, and soon the Gulf.<\/p>\n

The company has been busy \u00a0launching AI-powered devices and custom wearables, and healthcare is NEXA\u2019s biggest vertical, Morcos said. \u201cWe\u2019re doing more for the medical device companies and in healthcare than every other vertical combined at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet, NEXA\u2019s work in the industrial sector is surging too. That includes custom tech for prison systems, tablets for the maritime industry, and automation for tracking containers at ports, for instance. Retail is also a strong vertical for NEXA.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019re seeing is a significant push to connect everything, sensors here, sensors there, because with more data, the better enterprise companies can improve outcomes, whether that\u2019s in healthcare or defense or retail. So what we\u2019re seeing is continued significant demand for purpose-built IoT solutions for enterprises to capture data.\u201d Morcos said.<\/p>\n

The result? \u201cWe\u2019re on target to double the business next year after having our largest year ever this year. We\u2019re going to be expanding into some of the global markets, predominantly the Gulf countries.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, NEXA\u2019s local roots are deep, Morcos says. \u201cThe business is growing, and South Florida continues to be a great place to obtain the talent we\u2019re looking for. I know people talk about that all the time \u2013<\/a> can you get talent here? You can absolutely get talent here.\u201d<\/p>\n
