JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 A Northside Jacksonville woman says she is lucky to be alive after she said a neighbor\u2019s tree crashed through her home Saturday during powerful weekend storms.<\/p>\n
Pamela Randall says she is normally in her bedroom around 5 p.m. \u2014 right around the time the storm struck \u2014 but says she felt compelled to stay put and finish watching a movie.<\/p>\n
\u201cGod told me to stay here, finish watching my movie,\u201d Randall said.<\/p>\n
When the storm hit, she was finishing a movie and then the tree came crashing through. She was in a panic.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was on the porch, and I was soaking wet. I was screaming. I was screaming\u2019, and nobody heard me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The tree came crashing through her bedroom window and her living room. She says normally she would have been in her bed where the tree hit. Tree branches are through her roof and on her bed.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy bed is destroyed,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s a tree over there, and like I said, I normally be in my bedroom around 5, and this happened between 5, between 6, and 6.30.\u201d<\/p>\n
Randall says the tree didn\u2019t come from her own yard.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no trees on my property. I\u2019m terrified of trees,\u201d she said. \u201cBut at the end of the day, God got me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The experience has left her shaken \u2014 emotionally and physically.<\/p>\n
\u201cEmotional, stressed and drained, and I cried for two days,\u201d Randall said. \u201cI didn\u2019t sleep for two days. I finally got some rest last night.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, she says her faith carried her through.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people didn\u2019t wake up Sunday morning,\u201d Randall said. \u201cHe had his angels all over me.\u201d<\/p>\n
We spoke with a roofing contractor with Danztler Group as they were evaluating the roof. Bryan Widmayer explained what could have caused a tree like this to fall under the circumstances. <\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the limbs essentially gets a ton of water inside of it and then when that sheer wind comes it just snaps in half and then results in what you see here.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says people should be getting their trees inspected every year, especially big ones like Live Oaks.<\/p>\n
