Hurricane forecasters are monitoring a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico off the southeastern coast of the U.S.<\/p>\n

As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, National Hurricane Center forecasters said an area of low pressure was expected to form as it moves northeast over the Gulf this weekend and over the southeastern U.S. coast early next week.<\/p>\n

The disturbance has a 20% chance of forming into a tropical cyclone within the next seven days.<\/p>\n

Forecasters are monitoring areas around Florida, as well as the Georgia and South Carolina coasts.<\/p>\n

If the system developed into a named storm, it would be the second of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season following Tropical Storm Arthur<\/a> in mid-June.
