His arrest report states that the crash happened around 1:36 a.m. on June 8 as Hankerson, 19, was driving a black 2019 Tesla Model 3 northbound on Northwest 17th Avenue near loanDepot Park.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the victim was riding an Ausom electric stand-up scooter in the same lane in front of the Tesla near Northwest 89th Street when Hankerson allegedly struck the rider from behind. <\/p>\n
The report states the impact threw the victim onto the Tesla\u2019s windshield, where he became \u201cpartially wedged\u201d into the driver\u2019s side windshield until the vehicle braked. <\/p>\n
Deputies said the victim then slid off the front of the Tesla and came to rest in the center turn lane of Northwest 27th Avenue near Northwest 90th Street.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Hankerson got out of the Tesla, checked on the victim and called 911 to report the crash. <\/p>\n
Investigators said he then returned to the Tesla before fleeing the scene on foot with two unidentified occupants. The report states Hankerson later returned with family members and was detained.<\/p>\n
No other arrests were confirmed in connection with the incident. <\/p>\n
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue medics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead at 1:47 a.m., according to the report. His or her age or identity weren\u2019t immediately released. <\/p>\n
After being read his Miranda rights, Hankerson initially told detectives that he had been a passenger in the Tesla and claimed the driver, identified only as \u201cTJ,\u201d ran from the scene, according to the report.<\/p>\n
Investigators said surveillance video from a nearby home \u201cclearly captured\u201d Hankerson exiting the driver\u2019s side of the Tesla and running toward the victim after the crash.<\/p>\n
The report states Hankerson later gave detectives \u201ca full confession\u201d that was redacted from the publicly released report.<\/p>\n
As of Wednesday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed at $5,000. A judge also placed Hankerson on house arrest. <\/p>\n
