Just two words \u2014 a short description of a neighborhood \u2014 has sparked a lawsuit between two Miami-Dade developers.<\/p>\n

The Mansions on Fisher Island<\/a>, a community of the largest luxury single-family homes on the private island, is being sued for alleged trademark infringement of the registered phrase \u201cThe Mansions.\u201d Devtov Group, LLC, developer of The Mansions at Doral, filed the suit against Madar Group USA, its CEO David Emmanuel Cohen, Davco Management and multiple Fisher Island LLCs late last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Devtov Group filed for the federal trademark<\/a> of \u201cThe Mansions\u201d in 2022, though it\u2019s been using the phrase since 2013. Since then, the complaint alleges the group has built recognition, won awards and made millions in connection with The Mansions brand.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the developer wrote that \u201cthe complaint seeks to protect Devtov\u2019s federally registered trademarks and the reputation the company established over many years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reached by the Miami Herald, a spokesperson for The Mansions on Fisher Island said Tuesday that it had not yet been served with the suit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is our desire to reach an amicable resolution,\u201d the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n

The complaint states the Fisher Island developers began using \u201cThe Mansions on Fisher Island\u201d in promotions in 2024 and filed for the same \u201cThe Mansions\u201d trademark as Devtov, as well as \u201cThe Mansions Group\u201d and \u201cThe Mansions on Fisher Island,\u201d in 2026.<\/p>\n

On Feb. 13, 2026, in response to a cease-and-desist letter from Devtov Group, developer Madar Group USA allegedly expressed that \u201c\u2018mansions\u2019 is merely descriptive and proposing that Devtov surrender its registration,\u201d according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Devtov claims Madar\u2019s use of \u201cThe Mansions\u201d continued after the cease-and-desist requests.<\/p>\n

Part of Devtov\u2019s concerns include that the public will falsely believe there is a connection between the two developers and misattribute their projects to each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal is to help avoid marketplace confusion and preserve the integrity of a brand that reflects Devtov\u2019s longstanding investment and commitment to excellence,\u201d Devtov Group said in a statement. \u201cDevtov remains focused on what it has always done best, creating exceptional residential communities with high quality and craftsmanship that have defined the company since its founding.\u201d<\/p>\n
