{"id":342843,"date":"2026-07-16T23:34:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T23:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/342843\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T23:34:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T23:34:10","slug":"trumps-end-of-tps-threatens-status-of-miami-residents-who-identify-as-haitian-american","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/342843\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s end of TPS threatens status of Miami residents who identify as Haitian American"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Published:\u00a0July 16, 2026 at 7:09 PM<\/p>\n<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Updated:\u00a0July 16, 2026 at 7:17 PM<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">MIAMI \u2014 Miami residents who identify as Haitian Americans are among those affected by the end of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/humanitarian\/temporary-protected-status\/temporary-protected-status-designated-country-haiti\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/humanitarian\/temporary-protected-status\/temporary-protected-status-designated-country-haiti\">Temporary Protected Status<\/a> that kept them safe in South Florida. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Corrine, who asked not to be identified by last name, said she was 9 years old when she moved to Miami from Haiti, just 12 days after the earthquake in 2010. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve been here for 16 years, I\u2019ve obtained an education, I work, I volunteer at my church with children,\u201d Corrine, 26, said. \u201cI\u2019m angry; I\u2019m scared. I don\u2019t know what to think; I don\u2019t know what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Conditions in the Caribbean nation are so bad that the U.S. State Department has the highest level warning for U.S. citizens traveling to Haiti. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In late June, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end TPS for Haitians on July 10, but active litigation forced an extension <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/save\/current-user-agencies\/news-alerts\/update-on-termination-of-temporary-protected-status-for-haiti-release-july-10-2026\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/save\/current-user-agencies\/news-alerts\/update-on-termination-of-temporary-protected-status-for-haiti-release-july-10-2026\">on July 24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s nothing in Haiti for us. Haiti is not a safe place anymore. What would we go back to?
