Cape Coral woman accused of stealing electricity with extension cord from apartment<\/p>\n

A Cape Coral woman was arrested for reportedly stealing electricity from a neighboring property by running an extension cord to power an air conditioner after the electricity at her apartment was shut off, according to police. <\/p>\n

Cape Coral police arrested Kelly Coe after responding to a report of suspected power theft at a property on Vincennes Street. <\/p>\n

Landlord Willy Tabertshofer said he learned about the reported theft from a neighbor, who told him they saw Coe run an extension cord from his property to the neighboring apartment Tuesday night. The neighbor later sent him a photo of the cord, prompting him to call police the following day. <\/p>\n

According to a police report, an extension cord was connected from Tabertshofer’s property to the neighboring apartment, where it was being used to reportedly power an air conditioning unit. <\/p>\n

Tabertshofer said Coe had been evicted from the apartment on July 8 and that the electricity to the unit had already been disconnected. <\/p>\n

“She was evicted from this apartment on July 8, so she wasn’t even supposed to be there. They had the power off,” Tabertshofer said. <\/p>\n

Police located Coe at the neighboring apartment and took her into custody. <\/p>\n

According to a police report, Coe told officers the apartment was too hot because it did not have electricity. When asked about the extension cord connected to the neighboring property, she denied attaching it herself and claimed another neighbor had done so. <\/p>\n

Coe was arrested and faces charges including burglary and utility theft.<\/p>\n
