Brian Windhorst believes Pat Riley’s history of rebuilding relationships with former Heat stars gives Miami a realistic path to reunite with LeBron James.<\/p>\n

The Miami Heat continue to emerge as one of the leading candidates to reunite with LeBron James as the four-time NBA MVP weighs his next move.<\/p>\n

During an appearance on NBA Today<\/a>, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst pointed to Pat Riley’s history of repairing relationships with franchise legends as a major reason why a second stint in Miami should not be ruled out.<\/p>\n

“Pat Riley, over the decades, has been able to have second acts with all these great players,” Windhorst said.<\/p>\n

“Alonzo Mourning left under a dark cloud and came back. Shaq, after leaving with animosity, ended up returning to the franchise and got his number retired. Dwyane Wade obviously left in free agency after a disagreement, came back, and now there’s a statue outside.”<\/p>\n

James spent four seasons with the Heat from 2010 to 2014, winning two championships and reaching four consecutive NBA Finals alongside Wade and Chris Bosh.<\/p>\n

His departure for the Cleveland Cavaliers disappointed Miami’s organization and fan base, but Windhorst believes the relationship never deteriorated to the extent seen in some of James’ other exits.<\/p>\n

“Pat Riley knows how to bring guys back,” Windhorst continued. “While there was disappointment when he left in 2014, there’s never been the animosity that existed in other places LeBron left.”<\/p>\n

Miami has pathway to LeBron reunion <\/p>\n

Windhorst also believes Miami could appeal to James because the franchise is positioned to build over multiple seasons rather than chase only short-term success.<\/p>\n

“Miami has a pathway, especially with LeBron saying he’s looking at multiple years,” Windhorst said.<\/p>\n

“Multiple years have been the formula for him. He’s won a championship in the second year everywhere he’s gone. I think Miami would be at its best a year from now, and LeBron can be part of that.”<\/p>\n

James won the first championship of his career during his second season with Miami. He also delivered a title to Cleveland in his second year after returning in 2014 and won with the Los Angeles Lakers during his second season with the franchise.<\/p>\n

A return to Miami would give James another opportunity to compete in a familiar environment under Riley and Erik Spoelstra.<\/p>\n
