RUSKIN, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 New bodycam video shows the moment deputies say a Florida man opened fire on two Hillsborough County deputies after allegedly holding his ex captive overnight.<\/a><\/p>\n

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office<\/a> say the deputy-involved shooting happened Thursday morning on West Shell Point Road in Ruskin.<\/p>\n

The investigation began after a woman reported her ex-boyfriend, 34-year-old Christopher Dmuchowski, held her captive at gunpoint overnight, according to previous reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Authorities said deputies responded to Dmuchowski\u2019s home around 9:52 a.m. after learning he was armed and alone.<\/p>\n

Using a drone, law enforcement observed him leave his apartment and walk toward a vehicle when he suddenly opened fire and struck two deputies, Deputy Sopharmony Muon and Deputy Colton Daniels.<\/p>\n

Sgt. Harrison Bashner arrived during the gunfire where he shot and killed Dmuchowski, according to reports.<\/p>\n

“This suspect was intent on killing our deputies,” Sheriff Chad Chronister<\/a> said. “He ambushed them, and he would have succeeded if not for the heroic actions of one of our own.”<\/p>\n

Dmuchowski, a convicted felon, was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.<\/p>\n

Muon has been with HCSO for two years, Daniels for four years and Bashner for 28 years.<\/p>\n

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"RUSKIN, Fla.
