Happy hours are best judged on the ratio of quality vs value. A cheap margarita isn\u2019t worth it if it\u2019s just six ounces of premade mix with a small splash of well tequila. But something well-crafted for a dollar amount in the single digits? That\u2019s a happy hour worth discussing.<\/p>\n

After a visit this weekend, it\u2019s the happy hour at Forbici that I\u2019m talking about. The modern Italian restaurant opened just under one month ago at The Sundial (183 2nd Ave N), and the tables and barstools have been packed every day since. <\/p>\n

I\u2019d been to their original Hyde Park Village location a few times, so I knew what kind of quality to expect overall. However, I had not been for happy hour, and after one experience, it\u2019s easy to say it\u2019s one of the best happy hour deals in town. And to make it even better, happy hour runs seven days a week, taking place 3-6 pm throughout the restaurant every day.<\/p>\n

By my count, there are a full 25 happy hour menu items priced under $10, with a healthy mix of both food and drink. Only three items hit the double-digit mark, with the housemade meatballs ($10), oysters on the half shell ($12) and antipasto board ($12) all still providing value.<\/p>\n

The cocktail selection is a true craft cocktail offering, all checking in at $9. Nonna\u2019s Espresso Martini is an excellent and chocolatey take on the classic happy hour martini, while the grapefruit-forward Forbici Spritz offers something a little bit lighter. The Sicilian Margarita is most assuredly not a watered down version, made with Corazon blanco, amaretto, blood orange liqueur, agave, lemon, and cinnamon salt.<\/p>\n

The happy hour food menu brings some serious chops to the experience. As a group of three, we more than filled up on a smorgasbord of meatballs, Calabrian chicken wings ($9) in a great hot honey sauce, fried calamari ($7), a decadent and cheesy garlic bread log ($8), and two slices each of the margherita and pepperoni pizzas, which each run $5 for two slices of the Roman-style pizza. $44 filled up three people at a nice restaurant with more than a few bites to spare, and we all got to try different things.<\/p>\n

The full dinner experience at Forbici is still a must-try, especially for pasta lovers or anyone who just wants an entire fresh-baked pizza to themselves. But we\u2019ll be singing the praises of that happy hour for a while. It\u2019s hard to beat in the middle of downtown St. Pete. And if you do find yourself in Tampa, they have the same happy hour at the Tampa location.<\/p>\n
