A Miami Police lieutenant was arrested on DUI charges following a crash over the weekend, records showed.<\/p>\n
Thomas Carroll, 49, is facing DUI and DUI refusal to test charges in the Saturday evening crash, an arrest report said.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Carroll was driving a Ford F-150 northbound on U.S. 1 when he rear-ended a Mercedes E350 at Southwest 95th Street.<\/p>\n
A witness said they followed the truck as he continued and failed to maintain his lane several times, at nearly sideswiping a Cybertruck, the report said.<\/p>\n
Carroll eventually struck a center median and became lodged on the media with the truck disabled, the report said.<\/p>\n
Police and fire rescue responded and found Carroll in the driver’s seat unconscious, and fire rescue workers were forced to break the rear window to get in the truck, the report said.<\/p>\n
Carroll was taken to a hospital but refused treatment, and the report said he had an odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and very poor balance.<\/p>\n
He later refused to perform field sobriety exercises and refused to give a breath test, the report said.<\/p>\n
In a statement Monday, Miami Police said Carroll has been relieved to duty pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.<\/p>\n
