TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Bridging the gap between community leaders and local law enforcement while focusing on reducing gun violence. <\/p>\n
That\u2019s what an event between pastors and police centered around Monday in Tallahassee. <\/p>\n
The event, \u201cUnited for Peace, a breakfast conversation,\u201d was put on by Capital Area Justice Ministry at the Old West Enrichment Center. <\/p>\n
Pastors and law enforcement from the Tallahassee Police Department, the Leon County Sheriff\u2019s Office, and Tallahassee State College met face to face to talk about issues surrounding gun violence in the community. <\/p>\n
Leaders brainstormed and discussed ideas to create a gun violence-free Tallahassee. <\/p>\n

Bryan Stringer, executive director of the Capital Area Justice Ministry, said, \u201cAccountability and commitment. That it\u2019s going to take more than the police to police our neighborhoods. It\u2019s going to take more than the pastors to preach a message, right? Collectively, we have to come together.\u201d <\/p>\n
TPD Chief Lawrence Revell said it takes a community to keep this community safe.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe say it all the time, there\u2019s no way we can do it as police alone,\u201d he said. \u201cJust having real conversations with them to figure out what they want and what they need. This allows us to do that in ways that we as just a police department would never be able to do on our own.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both law enforcement and pastors echoed the same sentiment: that getting to the core causes of these acts of violence is key to reducing gun violence across communities. <\/p>\n
