MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. \u2014 The Democratic primary for District 27 will pit former South Florida news anchor Eliott Rodriguez against former prosecutor Robin Peguero. <\/p>\n
Both are hoping to take on incumbent Republican Maria Salazar in November\u2019s election. <\/p>\n
Local 10\u2019s Jeff Derderain caught up with Rodriguez at the Miami home he grew up in. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe people who grew up here, they are leaving,\u201d he said. \u201cThey can\u2019t afford to live here, and we need someone who is in Congress focused on these economic realities.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says he\u2019ll fight for federal housing dollars.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will tell you when I\u2019m elected to Congress I will vow not to trade individual stocks,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Peguero told Derderain that Rodriguez refuses to debate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWill you debate him?\u201d Derderain asked Rodriguez. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll run that by my campaign,\u201d Rodriguez replied. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a half an answer, Eliott,\u201d said Derderian. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what you\u2019re going to get,\u201d replied Rodriguez. <\/p>\n
Peguero met with Derderain at a public library in Hialeah not far from where he grew up and was asked why he decided to run. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo advocate for the people of this community who are suffering,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Peguero agreed with Rodriguez on term limits and stock trading. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy plan says no stock trading while you\u2019re in congress,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
