Both victims, identified as Carl Loubeau, 24, and Juliun Stokes, 22, both from Fort Pierce, were taken to separate local hospitals, where they later died from their injuries.

Police said a verbal altercation occurred outside the residence over a key to a home and escalated into an exchange of gunfire between two of the individuals involved.

Chief Leo Niemczyk said a woman contacted Loubeau, whom she was dating, for a key because she was locked out of her home.

“When Carl arrives, he finds her present with other people, including two males,” Niemczyk said. “The motive behind the initial attack was jealousy over the female.”

WATCH BELOW: Double fatal shooting stemmed from jealousy over woman

Police said Loubeau was the primary aggressor in the dispute, with Dwayne Walker, 20, discharging his firearm in self-defense.

“Carl approached Juliun, opened fire on him; apparently, we think he mistook Juliun for Dwayne, starting firing on him,” Niemczyk said. “Dwayne was in close proximity and withdrew his firearm, which is lawfully carried, and started firing on Carl.”

Police said Walker was not injured in the incident.

Niemczyk said their current investigation shows that Loubeau fired eight rounds from a 9 mm pistol and one round from a .380 pistol, with Walker firing eight rounds from his .40 caliber pistol.

“It’s just a horrible choice for a solution to a problem,” Niemczyk said. “Do you want to take the chance of being killed, killing someone, and going to prison for the rest of your life or worse over a lost relationship? It makes no sense.”

No arrests have been made in the case.

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with detectives is asked to contact the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

Police in Port St. Lucie said they believe jealousy over a woman prompted an exchange of gunfire that…

[12
171,173,172
post-346800","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-port-st-lucie","tag-port-st-lucie","tag-port-st-lucie-headlines","tag-port-st-lucie-news
["GET
