NEED TO KNOW

A 29-year-old pregnant woman has been “medically evacuated” from the Carnival Sunrise cruise ship after experiencing “complications”

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) safely helped bring her back to shore, where she was transported to Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami

“Medical emergencies can happen anywhere. Coast Guard Southeast District crews remain always ready to respond and help get those in distress to the care they need,” a USCG Facebook post said

A pregnant woman’s vacation was cut short after she had to be rescued from a cruise ship by the U.S. Coast Guard after experiencing “complications.”

The 29-year-old woman was “medically evacuated” from the vessel by the Coast Guard Station Miami Beach boat crew on Thursday, July 16, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Southeast confirmed in a Facebook post. The ship was around four miles northeast of the manmade shipping channel, Government Cut, at the time of the rescue.

The cruise ship’s security manager requested USCG assistance and the woman was later “safely transferred” to Mount Sinai Medical Center by emergency services, the post stated.

A picture posted by the Coast Guard showed three personnel assisting the woman, who was on a stretcher wearing a life jacket. The image appeared to show a Carnival cruise ship in the background.

In a statement to NBC 6 South Florida, the cruise line confirmed that the woman had been evacuated from the Carnival Sunrise ship, which can hold up to 2,984 passengers.

“On July 16, shortly after departing from Miami, FL, Carnival Sunrise reported the need to medically disembark a passenger due to illness,” the statement obtained by the outlet read.

It appears that the four-night cruise had been traveling to Princess Cays and Nassau in the Bahamas after departing from Miami, per the Carnival Cruise Line website.

Carnival Cruise Line’s pregnancy policy states that passengers can only cruise if they “have not entered the 24th week of pregnancy at any time during the voyage.”

It says that guests should travel with a “letter from their physician stating that they and baby are in good health and fit to travel,” per the website.
