According to an annual price-comparison report published by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Miami\u2019s cost of living has now surpassed that of New York by about five percent, as reported<\/a> by Bloomberg. The Big Apple held the title for the highest cost of living for about four consecutive years, starting in 2022.<\/p>\n

Data trends show Miami\u2019s steady seven-year rise as South Florida\u2019s consumer price index began a whopping 36 percent upward trend. The metro area marks the highest increase in any metro area tracked by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and it comes second only to nearby Tampa.<\/p>\n

Driven by Florida\u2019s notable lack of state income tax, folks flocking to the Sunshine State have bolstered its residential reputation, giving way to a competitive market where top-notch realty prices rival even those in New York\u2019s most illustrious neighborhoods. Among the most popular are Coral Gables and Pinecrest, which boast estate-sized lots, gated communities, and deep-water access in small luxury enclaves. Plus, the price per square foot is still about $180 cheaper than the median price per square foot in New York City, according to Realtor.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s driving up the cost? Insurance. Florida boasts some of the highest home insurance<\/a> premiums in the country, as the state braces for hurricane season each year. Combined with rising property taxes, maintenance, and everyday expenditures like groceries, restaurant dining bills, and private school tuition if you have children, you\u2019ll find you\u2019re not saving much, Bloomberg reports.<\/p>\n

Yet, even as expenses rise, the Florida coast continues to attract the mega-wealthy, with Tom Brady<\/a>, Shakira, and former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz all now calling the sunny state home, but be warned: you\u2019ll pay a pretty penny for the star-studded lifestyle.<\/p>\n
