Just a couple of weeks after launching fully driverless rides in Miami, Tesla’s Robotaxi network is expanding north to cover two major metropolitan hubs in the central and western parts of Florida.

The official @robotaxi account announced the expansion on X, confirming that Robotaxi rides are now live in Orlando and Tampa. This means residents in both cities can open the official Robotaxi app on Android or iOS and hail a fully unsupervised Model Y. There’s no human driver behind the wheel or safety monitor in the front passenger seat in either service zone, marking another big step forward for the network’s commercial rollout.

                                                                                                        Not a Tesla App

Breaking Down the New Service Zones

Both Orlando and Tampa are starting out with targeted geofenced boundaries, though both coverage zones are expected to grow over time as fleet operations settle in, just as they’ve done in other Robotaxi markets.

In Orlando, the unsupervised Robotaxi ride zone spans roughly 12 to 15 square miles. The service area covers eastern and southeastern Orlando neighborhoods, including the Conway and Lee Vista districts. The outer perimeter is bounded generally by the Beachline Expressway (FL-528) to the south and the Central Florida GreeneWay (SR 417) to the east.

Tampa gets a slightly smaller operating footprint at launch, measuring about 4 to 5 square miles. This zone covers central Tampa neighborhoods located directly north of Downtown and Hyde Park, including West Tampa, Tampa Heights, and key stretches of Seminole Heights along the US 41 Business corridor.

                                                                                                        Not a Tesla App

At the same time as the Florida expansion, the Robotaxi service picked up a key destination on the west coast. The official @Tesla_AI account confirmed on X that the Bay Area Robotaxi network, which operates as a ride-hailing service with a safety monitor present in the driver seat, now offers rides to and from the San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

This is the second Robotaxi launch in Florida this month, coming shortly after Tesla debuted unsupervised rides in Miami. The rapid expansion comes right as Tesla celebrates one whole year of its Robotaxi service, which originally kicked off as a pilot project in Austin, Texas, back in June 2025.

With the latest additions, the active Robotaxi network now spans seven geographic markets across three states:

Miami: Unsupervised Model Y rides only

Orlando: Unsupervised Model Y rides only (NEW)

Tampa: Unsupervised Model Y rides only (NEW)

Dallas: Unsupervised Model Y rides only

Houston: Unsupervised Model Y rides only

Austin: Mix of unsupervised Model Y rides and rides with safety monitors

Bay Area: Safety monitor Model Y rides only (now serves SFO as well)

                                                                                                        @SawyerMerritt / X

Looking ahead, Tesla will likely bring the Robotaxi service to a few more markets over the coming weeks and months. Potential future launches include Nevada, where Tesla has already filed permits for 5,000 ride-hailing vehicles, New Orleans, where Robotaxi vehicles were recently spotted testing, and Arizona.

However, Tesla leadership previously noted that large-scale Robotaxi expansions will have to wait until Full Self-Driving version 15 arrives. FSD v15, slated to roll out later this year or early next year, will be the next major architectural jump and is expected to feature 10x more parameters than current builds.

While states like Texas and Florida are welcoming fully autonomous ride-hailing, a new bill making its way through the New Jersey legislature could effectively ban Tesla’s camera-only robotaxis from the state unless they add more sensors like radar and LiDAR.

Hardware shifts are also on the horizon. Tesla’s Cybercab, which is supposed to be the backbone of the network and take over from the current retrofitted Model Y robotaxis to enable rapid scaling, just started testing on public roads without a steering wheel, pedals, or any other manual driving controls. The Cybercab’s public debut is closer than ever before, but for now, Florida riders can enjoy driverless trips in Model Y robotaxis across Orlando and Tampa today.

Tesla’s autonomous ride-hailing ambitions are picking up serious momentum in the Sunshine State.
