(CBS12)  \u2014 A<a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Treasure%20hunter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> treasure hunter&#8217;s<\/a> underwater find turned out to be an active explosive, prompting a response from bomb technicians at a Fort Pierce fire station on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Fort%20Pierce%20Police%20Department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fort Pierce Police Department<\/a> said its officers responded at approximately 1:10 p.m. July 20 to St. Lucie County Fire District Station 2, located at 855 Seaway Drive, after receiving a report of a found explosive.<\/p>\n<p>According to police, an adult man brought the item to the fire station after discovering it while treasure hunting about one mile east of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Fort%20Pierce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fort Pierce Inlet<\/a> in about 30 to 40 feet of water.<\/p>\n<p>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/news\/local\/martin-county-fire-rescue-warns-property-tax-proposal-homestead-exemption-could-force-major-cuts-116-firefighter-positions-one-third-workforce-response-times-safety-martin-county-commission-165-million-reduction-funding-revenue-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Martin County Fire Rescue warns property-tax proposal could force major cuts<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/St.%20Lucie%20County%20Sheriff&#039;s%20Office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">St. Lucie County Sheriff&#8217;s Office <\/a>Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team responded to the scene and determined the item was a live mortar.<\/p>\n<p>The EOD team took possession of the mortar and removed it for disposal.
