The Dolphins and Brooks agreed to a three-year, $51.3 million deal that includes $35 million in guaranteed money, his agency told ESPN. The deal makes him the fifth highest-paid linebacker in the NFL and leaves him under contract with Miami through 2029.

Brooks was an All-Pro selection last season and a Pro Bowler for the first time after he led the NFL in tackles with 183.

Brooks, 28, has 326 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble in his two seasons (and 34 games) with Miami. He has led the NFL in tackles in both 2021 and 2025, and his 838 tackles in six seasons ranks 14th among active players.

He will make $10.8 million this season before his extension kicks in.

General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan said in March that he “would like Jordyn to be a part” of the future here. “We would like him to be a pillar on the defensive side as we build this out. He’s a very good player.”

Brooks attended the team’s offseason workouts, both mandatory and voluntary, while hoping for an extension.

“Great leader, loves football, works really, really hard,” coach Jeff Hafley said this offseason. “He’s made the right way. I’ve really enjoyed him. You see the film, you see the type of player that he is; but once you get to know him you kind of understand why. I think his work ethic is elite and he loves football. He absolutely loves the game and he wants to meet. He wants to go over stuff. He wants to learn. He’s a fun guy to coach.”

Dolphins run game defensive coach Joe Barry, who was the Dolphins’ linebackers coach the past two seasons, said Brooks also has grown as a leader: “I don’t think the first six months he talked. Now he’s the voice of our team. He has become an elite player, and an elite leader.”

Brooks played his first four seasons with Seattle before joining the Dolphins in March 2024, on a three-year, $31 million contract.

“I mean, he’s the best linebacker in the league,” then-Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said last season. “Just put on the tape. I think it’d be hard-pressed for anybody to put Jordyn’s tape against either of those guys and say that he’s an alternate to either of them. That kid has been flying around all year. He’s the NFL’s leading tackler… He deserves to be a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro.

“He’s relentless and disciplined. His leadership makes my job easier because he helps bring other players along through his work ethic and preparation. I don’t always have to be the driving force because I know he will motivate others. When I first met him, he was quiet, but once he trusts someone, he comes out of his shell. As a leader, Jordyn has surpassed expectations.”

The Dolphins have now doled out $104 million in guaranteed money as part of extensions for Brooks, running back De’Von Achane (four years, as much as $68 million with $32 million guaranteed) and center Aaron Brewer (three years, $52.5 million and $37 million guaranteed).

This story was originally published July 21, 2026 at 12:01 PM.

                Barry Jackson

                    Miami Herald

Barry Jackson has written for the Miami Herald since 1986 and has written the Florida Sports Buzz column since 2002.

For the third time this offseason, the Dolphins have given a lucrative extension to a player that the…

[9
123,125,124
post-348257","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-miami","tag-miami","tag-miami-headlines","tag-miami-news
["GET
