Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/p>\nJail records show Leonardo Daniel Rivas, 42, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm. <\/p>\n
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office said the boy was attending his daily occupational therapy session at Florida Kids Therapy Medley at 13335 SW 124th St. on Thursday when Rivas, who was serving as his occupational therapist, \u201csqueezed the victim\u2019s cheeks together\u201d and repeatedly forced a speech therapy device known as a Whisper Phone into the victim\u2019s mouth, \u201ccovering his mouth several times.\u201d<\/p>\n
An arrest report states that the boy became upset, after which Rivas \u201cbegan holding the victim down forcefully to the chair\u201d and \u201cfirmly pushed the victim\u2019s legs down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Investigators said the boy suffered \u201cnumerous abrasions\u201d to both shoulder blades and his chest. According to the report, he was treated for his injuries at Nicklaus Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n
Authorities later arrested Rivas, who told investigators he did not want to speak with them without an attorney present, the report states.<\/p>\n
As of Wednesday morning, Rivas was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as \u201cto be set.\u201d<\/p>\n
Local 10 has requested a statement from the clinic following Rivas\u2019 arrest.<\/p>\n
