Miami Mayor Francis Suarez<\/a> has gifted keys to the city to many interesting characters, from UFC CEO Dana White<\/a> to right-wing YouTube pranksters the Nelk Boys<\/a>. But Wednesday afternoon inside the Kaseya Center at the America Business Forum, Suarez reserved his shiniest golden key for a man he has dubbed the \u201cpeacemaker-in-chief\u201d<\/a>: President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Toward the end of Trump\u2019s remarks about the economy, Suarez joined him on stage with a black velvet box in hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour leadership and your vision have shaped not only our nation, but also the future of our city,\u201d Suarez says from behind the podium. He describes Miami\u2019s success as rooted in American values like \u201copportunity, freedom, safety, and innovation,\u201d values that Trump has \u201cchampioned with conviction.\u201d<\/p>\n

After more fawning admiration, Suarez asks Trump, \u201cYou like real estate, right?\u201d Trump nods. \u201cThis is a key that opens some really nice presidential library<\/a> real estate,\u201d Suarez says. The president and mayor then smile for the cameras.<\/p>\n

Trump is among a roster of high-profile speakers at the forum<\/a>, including figures like Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Mar\u00eda Corina Machado, soccer legend Lionel Messi, and motivational guru Tony Robbins. Prior to receiving the key to the Magic City, Trump boasted about his economic policy, calling this the \u201cgolden age\u201d of America, describing the United States\u2019 economy as the \u201chottest\u201d in the world, and bragging about lowering the cost of eggs.<\/p>\n

The president also remarked on New York City Mayor-elect\u00a0Zohran Mamdani\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>Tuesday victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow the Democrats are so extreme that Miami will soon be the refuge for those fleeing communism in New York City. They flee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Though Suarez suggested the key would unlock Trump\u2019s future presidential library in downtown Miami, that project is on hold, according to Politico<\/a>. In mid-October, Circuit Judge Mavel Ruiz temporarily blocked the land transfer from Miami Dade College to a Trump family foundation after Black historian Marvin Dunn sued, arguing that college officials violated Florida\u2019s open-government law by quietly handing the property to the state.
