A group of friends came to South Florida to attend a reggae concert. Once they got home they realized they\u2019d been charged for the entire minibar even though they say they never had a sip. So they turned to Help Me Howard with Brandon Beyer.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley was all smiles when she visited Miami for the best of the best, a reggae concert in Bayfront Park.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cYou get your chairs, your umbrella and you\u2019re out there just watching the artists on the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tammy and two friends flew in from the Bahamas. They chose a hotel close by so they could walk to the festival.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cSo we could get to and from our event without having to drive and worry about parking.\u201d<\/p>\n
The concert was a blast and they spent hours in the park listening to music.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cIt ended like 11 [p.m.] we walked back to the hotel, it was fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n
A couple days later \u2013 they checked out of their hotel \u2013 and headed home.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cBut about two or three days later, I get an invoice.\u201d<\/p>\n
For $626.59.<\/p>\n
Tammy had been charged for every single item in the hotel minibar.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: I\u2019m like \u2018But I didn\u2019t use the minibar,\u2019 I didn\u2019t take any item out of the minibar because who does that?\u201d<\/p>\n
She was even charged for the snacks.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cThen they have food bites, potato chips, plantains.\u201d<\/p>\n
And oddly enough, according to her receipt \u2013 everything had been removed at the same time: 7:24 p.m.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cWe went and hugged everything in the refrigerator and brought it out.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tammy says she would never pay minibar prices, much less empty the fridge.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cWho purchases from the minibar when you go to the hotel? I\u2019m sorry, I\u2019m from the Bahamas we know that those things are ridiculously priced.\u201d<\/p>\n
She tried to handle it herself but was getting nowhere.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cI was angry, I felt helpless, I was livid.\u201d<\/p>\n
And then her friend had an idea.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cShe said \u2018No Tammy, call Help Me Howard, write Help Me Howard,\u2019 and that\u2019s what I did.\u201d<\/p>\n
Howard, it might be a minibar but that\u2019s a full sized bill.<\/p>\n
Howard Finkelstein: \u201cThe law requires the hotel must prove she took the items. In most cases they only have circumstantial evidence to work with. It\u2019s your room, you did it. Maybe someone else took the items, maybe it was a mix up. But Tammy says it wasn\u2019t her \u2013 now she just has to convince the hotel, and if she can\u2019t convince them, she can contest the charges with the credit card company.\u201d<\/p>\n
We emailed Tammy\u2019s hotel who told us:<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026 After a thorough internal review \u2026we have issued a full refund of the $626.59 minibar charge.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tammy was thrilled.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cI was elated and just so grateful and thankful.\u201d<\/p>\n
The hotel also offered Tammy a free night stay which she can use for next years concert.<\/p>\n
Tammy Morley: \u201cI\u2019m realizing Help Me Howard is as real as real can be and I\u2019m just so grateful that I called Help Me Howard to help me out of this mess. I can\u2019t even say enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
Howard says if you don\u2019t plan on using the minibar, you can always let your hotel know in advance and they can lock it up for you.<\/p>\n
