(WCTV) &#8211; While Leon County Head Start programs have opened with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/10\/27\/leon-county-childrens-services-council-helps-fund-head-start-centers-amid-pause-federal-funding\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/10\/27\/leon-county-childrens-services-council-helps-fund-head-start-centers-amid-pause-federal-funding\/\">the help of a $300,000 grant from the Children\u2019s Services Council<\/a>, Tallahassee faith leaders say more can be done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Greg James, pastor at Life Church International, made a call to action on a radio show last week, urging his fellow pastors to step up for their community. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSo what if 1000 churches just allocated 50 dollars for the next two months,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"The Tallahassee Urban League said the funds will support Head Start feeding programs.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/U46FU3OINVC6FM6EQXHKWXDTDY.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>The Tallahassee Urban League said the funds will support Head Start feeding programs.(Must credit Tallahassee Urban League)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">His call led to \u201cProject 1000\u2033 where funds will go to the Tallahassee Urban League and then be donated to Head Start programs in Leon County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Tallahassee Urban League said Wednesday that they are renewing a call for donations despite Head Start being open to cover costs for breakfast, lunch and snacks. \u201cWhen you take away one resource, it impacts another,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Pastor Stanley Walker of the Tabernacle Baptist Church was one of many pastors to motivate his congregation to give.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s something that we can\u2019t wait, something that is a need, is an emergency,\u201d Walker said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Tasha Carter, director of operations at Jacob Chapel Baptist Church, said the church has been working to ensure no one goes without a meal with their food pantry and farm share programs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-center article-text\">More Tallahassee news:<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhen we were made aware of the Project 1000 initiative, we were absolutely motivated and encouraged to want to become a part of that action,\u201d Carter said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">At Shady Grover Primitive Baptist Church, Pastor Lanorris McFadden is also meeting the call. \u201cThis is a prime opportunity to give back. And we should not wait for another time while I wait for somebody else to do it. This call is to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Tallahassee Urban League said they have raised about $4,000 for Head Start feeding programs.
