That possibility becomes even more interesting when you consider how heavily Universal has embraced nostalgia lately. Now, a mysterious project at Epic Universe could take that strategy much further.<\/p>\n

Rumors have also circulated that Universal may revisit ideas and franchises from its earlier years. Rather than rebuilding retired attractions exactly as they once existed, Universal could take the concepts behind those experiences and reinvent them with modern technology.<\/p>\n

A permit filed in June 2026 points toward substantial new construction connected to Dark Universe.<\/a> Permit B26903939 lists Stantec Architecture, LTD, and identifies a tenant space totaling approximately 71,500 square feet.<\/p>\n

For perspective, 71,500 square feet puts the project in roughly the same size range as Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roller Coaster at Disney\u2019s Hollywood Studios.<\/p>\n

The permit doesn\u2019t identify what Universal intends to build, so there is no confirmation that this will become a ride.<\/p>\n

However, past concept art for Dark Universe showed a large enclosed building that didn\u2019t make it into the finished land when Epic Universe opened. That doesn\u2019t prove Universal is moving forward with that exact concept, but the appearance of a large construction permit naturally raises questions.<\/p>\n

The Creature remains one of Universal\u2019s most recognizable classic monsters, yet the character doesn\u2019t have the major attraction presence that several other monsters receive within the Dark Universe.<\/p>\n

A dedicated ride could change that while allowing Universal to revive the spirit of one of its most famous retired Florida attractions: Jaws.<\/p>\n

Universal wouldn\u2019t need to rebuild Jaws. Instead, a Creature from the Black Lagoon attraction could borrow the basic appeal that made it so memorable.<\/p>\n

Guests could travel through a dark, swampy environment as the Creature appears unexpectedly around the ride vehicle. Practical effects, animatronics, water effects, and modern technology could turn the concept into something considerably creepier.<\/p>\n

Universal could also fill the attraction with references and Easter eggs inspired by Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), rewarding fans of the original movie.<\/p>\n

A Creature attraction could bring murky lagoons, caves, wetlands, and abandoned outposts into the land without feeling disconnected from its existing atmosphere.<\/p>\n

The character also carries decades of history. Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) remains one of Universal\u2019s defining monster movies, and a modern attraction could introduce the character to a new generation.<\/p>\n
