TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Every summer since 2010, 4Quartersonline has hosted a media day for big bend football teams. A familiar face was missing this year, as co-founder Johnny Cofield passed away in June, but his impact on the game won\u2019t soon be forgotten.<\/p>\n
\u201cJohnny Cofield was a walking almanac of Tallahassee [and] Big Bend high school football,\u201d said Cofield\u2019s 4Quartersonline co-founder, Marc Adams.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was a very humble man, he was very approachable,\u201d said Munroe head coach Colby Roberts. \u201c[He was] always willing to help schools, coaches and athletes out by going the extra mile.\u201d <\/p>\n
Another longtime local head coach in Florida High\u2019s Jarrod Hickman agreed. <\/p>\n
\u201c[Cofield] made the Big Bend area better because he tried to promote young people,\u201d said Hickman. \u201c[He was] somebody that cared about high school football the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Promoting local student-athletes is exactly why Cofield and Adams started 4Quartersonline back in 2009.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we do 4Quarters online, when we do anything related to community, it\u2019s not about what we do, it\u2019s about who we do it for and who we\u2019re doing it with,\u201d said Adams.<\/p>\n
The young stars who take part in the media day are given an opportunity that can help them past their high school years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe exposure to get here, the training on how to deal with the media, things along those lines,\u201d said Roberts, on the importance of the media day. \u201cSo it\u2019s not just strictly football, it\u2019s helping to teach life lessons as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Long before 4Quartersonline, Cofield was a Big Bend staple. He was a 1,000 yard rusher for Rickards in the 1970s, who then played college ball for Florida A&M. He later made his way to the sidelines to coach both the Raiders and FAMU DRS.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing able to do 4Quartersonline is basically leaning on that history and being able to bring it to life and actually allow people to write their own chapters,\u201d said Adams.<\/p>\n
It will feel different kicking off this high school season without him, but Adams says Cofield would want him to continue what they started together all those years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just take his greatness, we break it apart and spread it among the people and our staff, we all carry a little bit of him in what we do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m proud of Marc [Adams], 4Quartersonline, and the whole team for continuing his legacy,\u201d said Roberts.<\/p>\n
