{"id":350324,"date":"2026-07-23T20:35:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T20:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/350324\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T20:35:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T20:35:14","slug":"funding-timeline-announced-for-eastside-community-benefits-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/350324\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding timeline announced for Eastside community benefits agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2026\/02\/18\/cba-money-ready-eastside\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first round of public dollars<\/a> available to Eastside organizations as part of the city of Jacksonville\u2019s community benefits agreement with the <a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2023\/06\/12\/jaguars-vow-to-protect-eastside-in-stadium-renovation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> will use dollars from the current and upcoming fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>The Eastside Grants Committee hopes organizations will apply before the Aug. 3 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday, during its monthly meeting, the committee noted that as much as $7.6 million will be available.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Donna Deegan, in her proposed budget to the City Council on Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2026\/07\/20\/budget-2b-smaller-capital-housing-trust\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">allocated $4 million for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1 for Eastside grants<\/a>. Those dollars are subject to approval from the City Council during this fall\u2019s budget process.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed monies would be combined with the $4 million that has been set aside for Eastside grants during the current fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>It has taken more than nine months to <a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2025\/10\/22\/jacksonville-eastside-benefits-model\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">create the grants committee<\/a> through <a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2025\/10\/20\/eastside-benefits-agreement-vote\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">local legislation<\/a>, appoint its members and prepare them for the process of reviewing and doling out grants.<\/p>\n<p>The committee will vote on the organizations that receive grants in\u00a0early December.<\/p>\n<p>In order to apply for the grants, people or organizations must have attended the mandatory ethics workshop the city of Jacksonville held in May. The next ethics workshop is not scheduled until May 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Eastside Grants Committee timeline<\/p>\n<p>Here is the timeline for the first grant approval process:<\/p>\n<p>Aug. 3: Application deadline<\/p>\n<p>Early August: City of Jacksonville staff reviews whether applicants are qualified and eligible to receive grants. Disqualified applicants will have five days to appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Aug. 19 or 20: Appeal meeting for disqualified applicants<\/p>\n<p>Aug. 21-Nov. 2: Grants scoring process<\/p>\n<p>Nov. 3: Eastside Community Grants Committee votes on rankings for qualified applications.<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 1: Release of final application rankings<\/p>\n<p>Dec. 7: Committee submits list of recipients and funding allocations to City Council, the Mayor\u2019s Office, the Council Auditor\u2019s Office and the city\u2019s director of finance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an incredible opportunity for the Out East community to be impacted, especially because it\u2019s been disinvested in for such a long period of time,\u201d said committee chair Rudy Jamison, Ph.D. \u201cIt\u2019s imperative that we get as many applications as we possibly can so that we can better the Out East community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Future of Eastside Grants Committee<\/p>\n<p>During Wednesday\u2019s meeting, the committee also indicated microgrants \u2014 separate from the larger grants \u2014 might be available to businesses and organizations this fall.<\/p>\n<p>The committee anticipates future meetings will be held at the Kids Hope Alliance headquarters on the Eastside. The intention is to make future conversations about the committee\u2019s work and the grant funding process more accessible to the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Those meetings are tentatively scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month.
