Universal Orlando Resort has now confirmed the attendance weakness that Walt Disney World\u2019s unusually low wait times had already begun to suggest.<\/p>\n
During Comcast\u2019s second-quarter earnings report Thursday, the company disclosed that attendance across its broader Orlando resort began softening in June. The pressure has continued into the third quarter, even as Epic Universe delivers the strong guest response Comcast expected.<\/p>\n
That distinction matters. Universal\u2019s newest theme park is not being identified as the problem. Instead, the company\u2019s results suggest that Orlando\u2019s summer slowdown extends beyond any single attraction\u2014or even a single theme-park company.<\/p>\n

Comcast\u2019s second-quarter 2026 earnings presentation<\/a> reported $2.413 billion in theme-park revenue, a 2.7% increase over the same quarter last year. Adjusted EBITDA declined 5.1% to $609 million, although Comcast attributed part of that pressure to China-related travel restrictions affecting attendance at Universal Studios Japan<\/a>.<\/p>\n Orlando still drove the division\u2019s revenue growth, led by the \u201ccontinued strength\u201d of Epic Universe. But Comcast included an unusually direct qualification: performance across the broader Universal Orlando Resort fell below expectations, with attendance beginning to soften in June and remaining pressured into the third quarter.<\/p>\n Comcast did not release attendance numbers or explain how the decline was divided among Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, and Volcano Bay.<\/p>\n Executives reportedly became more direct during the call\u2019s Q&A, describing the weakness as primarily an attendance problem and pointing to weaker consumer sentiment and higher travel costs as contributing factors.<\/p>\n The company\u2019s message was not that Epic Universe had lost its appeal. Comcast said the new park continued meeting expectations, generating a strong guest response and helping increase per-capita spending across the destination.<\/p>\n Epic Universe may be doing its job. The broader market around it is becoming harder to ignore.<\/p>\n One day before Comcast\u2019s disclosure, Inside the Magic examined Walt Disney World\u2019s remarkably low summer wait times<\/a>.<\/p>\n Average posted waits across Disney World reportedly fell to 27 minutes in June and 26 minutes in July. During the same months in 2025, the averages were 31 and 30 minutes, respectively. That makes June\u2019s decline roughly 13%, with July showing a similar year-over-year drop.<\/p>\n Those numbers do not prove Disney World attendance fell by 13%. Posted waits can change because of attraction downtime, operating capacity, park hours, weather, and how visitors distribute themselves among rides.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, this summer has repeatedly produced days that would normally be associated with September, historically one of Disney World\u2019s slower periods. Earlier in July, Inside the Magic documented resort-wide waits falling as low as 19 minutes<\/a>, although fireworks crowds and individual headliners could still create concentrated congestion.<\/p>\n For guests inside the parks, that can be an unexpected advantage. Lower queues and less crowded walkways can make July feel considerably more manageable, particularly for visitors prepared for Central Florida\u2019s heat. As Inside the Magic previously noted, the \u201cghost town\u201d summer can become a win<\/a> for the people who still make the trip.<\/p>\n For the companies operating those parks, however, the same conditions carry a different meaning.<\/p>\n Universal\u2019s disclosure does not confirm that Disney World attendance is down, and Disney has not issued a matching statement about its summer crowds. The two pieces of evidence must remain separate: Universal confirmed attendance softness at its resort, while Disney\u2019s posted wait times indicate lighter attraction demand.<\/p>\n Together, though, they make the slowdown harder to dismiss as a quirk affecting one park.<\/p>\n The timing is especially notable because Disney executives said in May that higher fuel costs had not materially weakened advance bookings<\/a>.
