TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Department of Health\u2019s latest Reportable Diseases Frequency Report showed another increase in confirmed Cyclospora cases.<\/p>\n
FDOH\u2019s report showed for the week of July 12 through July 18 there were 60 newly confirmed cases in the state. Two of those being reported in the Big Bend. Both Leon and Wakulla counties are reporting a single case. This now brings the total cases in the Big Bend to three, with one other case being reported in Gadsden County back in June. <\/p>\n
According to public data from FDOH, the Leon County case involved a 35-39 year old individual, while the Wakulla County case involved a 40-44 year old. Both were listed as \u201cAcquired in FL.\u201d<\/p>\n
In total, FDOH has reported 152 confirmed cases in 2026. For comparison, there were 195 total confirmed cases in all of 2025. <\/p>\n
The state of Georgia does not publicly list surveillance of cyclospora cases. But, according to the CDC\u2019s cyclosporiasis tracker, between 31 and 80 people are listed as \u201csick\u201d since May 1 in Georgia.<\/p>\n
According to reporting from the AP, federal health officials are investigating a new outbreak involving cyclospora<\/a>. <\/p>\n The outbreak included 72 people as of Wednesday.<\/p>\n The Food and Drug Administration has not yet identified which products are linked to the illnesses. Officials also have not said where the cases are located.<\/p>\n Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that infects food that has come into contact with human feces, most commonly when produce is irrigated or washed with contaminated water.
