But now, participation comes with a higher price tag.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Maria Cardinas, a vendor, said the changes hit small businesses hardest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t like it because right now everything is expensive,\u201d she said. \u201cSo no, we don\u2019t agree with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The rules changed in June when organizer Downtown Vision, Inc. began charging new vendor fees: a $45 annual application fee and an additional $45 per event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cAlso, it\u2019s only four hours,\u201d Cardinas added. \u201cSo maybe we cannot sell much in four hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Food vendors face even more costs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Previously, the fees only applied to James Weldon Johnson Park, but Downtown Vision expanded them to cover the entire event footprint \u2014 including Laura Street and the right of way from Duval to Adams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">[DOWNLOAD: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/mobile-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Some vendors say that expansion adds pressure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Sherry Shine, another vendor, said she understands both sides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s an extra amount of money and it reduces how much we make,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I do understand that there are extra costs that are incurred. And I\u2019m grateful to have the opportunity to vend at this kind of event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">In a statement, Downtown Vision, Inc. said the team remains committed to maintaining the high quality, accessibility, and community spirit that make the Art Walk a signature event for the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">[SIGN UP: <a href=\"https:\/\/membercenter.actionnewsjax.com\/newsletters\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/a>] <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">The organization said it spent roughly $110,000 last year on security, live music, and operations \u2014 and that the new fees help cover those expenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Despite the new costs, Shine said she\u2019s staying optimistic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m hoping for a lot of people!\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Downtown Vision added that even with the increases, its vendor fees remain lower than many other local markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Statement on behalf of Downtown Vision, Inc.:<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Downtown Jacksonville\u2019s First Wednesday Art Walk remains one of Jacksonville\u2019s most beloved monthly traditions, providing an important platform for local artists to showcase their talent and for the community to experience the vibrancy of our city\u2019s arts and culture scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 jsuuLb body-paragraph\">Artists participating in First Wednesday Art Walk pay an annual $45 application fee and, if accepted, a $45 per event participation fee. Previously, these fees only applied to artists located in the park.
