Named after male deer whose new antlers are at full-growth during this time, the Buck Moon has long been associated with seasonal folklore while remaining a favorite among stargazers and photographers alike.

Other names given to this golden-amber moon include Thunder Moon, Raspberry Moon and Salmon Moon, signaling the time when fish swam up river systems and were ready to be harvested.

The moon is visible from anywhere with a clear view of the sky, offering the chance to enjoy one of summer’s most spectacular celestial displays. Whether you’re planning to watch from your balcony or looking for a reason to drive out to a dark-sky location, here’s everything you need to know about catching the Buck Moon.

When to see the Buck Moon in Miami

The Buck Moon will reach its full phase at 10:36 a.m. ET on July 29, although it will appear full on the nights immediately before and after the peak. If you’re hoping to catch it at its brightest, your best bet is to head outside shortly after sunset and look towards the southeast, per the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

When is the next full moon?

Following July’s Buck Moon is the Sturgeon Moon, which will reach peak illumination on Friday, August 28 at 12:18 a.m. ET.
