SALEM, Ore. – A complex incident management team (CIMT) from Florida will take over command of the East Evans Creek Fire Monday at 6 a.m.<\/p>\n
The Oregon Department of Forestry mobilized the team from Florida through a state-to-state mutual aid agreement. The Florida team will replace ODF CIMT 1, which has been managing the fire and making progress toward containment for two weeks.<\/p>\n
“These agreements create a reciprocal cache of resources that bolster the complete and coordinated fire protection system across North America,” Curran said.<\/p>\n
Michael Curran is ODF’s Fire Protection Division Chief. He says when resources within the state are strained, it’s helpful to have the support of partner states.<\/p>\n
Through these agreements\u2014including Alaska, Hawaii and northwest Canadian provinces and territories\u2014states can share resources with one another. This creates a larger, more comprehensive fire management system than any one state could have on its own.<\/p>\n
This is the first incident management team that ODF has ordered through these agreements this year. However, this isn’t Florida’s first time helping Oregon with wildfire suppression.<\/p>\n
Over the years, individual resources from Florida have been sent to Oregon to help fill specific positions as needed. So far this season, ODF has received resources from eight states, including Minnesota, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, California, Alabama, Tennessee and Nevada.<\/p>\n
The Florida team is committed to managing the East Evans Creek Fire for a standard assignment, which is 14 days.
