WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WALA<\/a>) – Walton County Fire Rescue posts on its Facebook page a structure fire led a burn victim being airlifted and several animals rescued Friday night.<\/p>\n

WALTON COUNTY FIRE RESCUE MAKES QUICK STOP ON MOSSY HEAD STRUCTURE FIRE; ONE BURN VICTIM AIRLIFTED<\/p>\n

A rapid response by Walton County Fire Rescue firefighters prevented fire from spreading through a home Friday evening in Mossy Head.<\/p>\n

At 6:33 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, Walton County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire on West Laurel Lane. Engine 11 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from a single-wide mobile home. <\/p>\n

Firefighters quickly made entry into the home and were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, preventing it from extending into the rest of the mobile home. Thanks to the quick actions of the crews, what could have become a total loss was limited to the kitchen, significantly reducing damage to the home. One patient sustained burn injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital for further evaluation. <\/p>\n

The fire started as a grease fire in the kitchen. <\/p>\n

Volunteers with Liberty Volunteer Fire District<\/a> also responded to the scene and assisted Walton County Fire Rescue crews.<\/p>\n

In addition to ensuring the safety of the occupants of the home, firefighters located two of the three residents\u2019 cats during their primary search and were able to remove them safely from the home. The occupants\u2019 three dogs were safely out of the home. While crews remained on scene, the third cat and the family\u2019s pet squirrel also returned safely, accounting for all of the pets living in the home. <\/p>\n

The American Red Cross of North and Central Florida<\/a> was contacted to assist the residents of the damaged home.<\/p>\n

Walton County Fire Rescue reminds residents that grease fires can become dangerous in seconds and should never be extinguished with water. If a grease fire occurs, turn off the heat if it is safe to do so, cover the pan with a metal lid or baking sheet, and evacuate the home if the fire cannot be immediately controlled. <\/p>\n
