That\u2019s the view of Rick Rosenfield, who co-founded the iconic California restaurant in Beverly Hills with Larry Flax in 1985.<\/p>\n
\u201cCalifornia is less business-friendly today, and they make it apparent,\u201d he told<\/a> Fox News.<\/p>\n Gov. Gavin Newsom likes to boast about the size of California\u2019s economy. Especially small business.<\/p>\n Listen to the men and women who risk their savings for a dream \u2014 only to be hit with taxes they never expected, regulations they\u2019ve never heard of, union fights they never asked for and lawsuits they never saw coming.<\/p>\n California has made life impossible for them, and unaffordable for almost everybody else.<\/p>\n Rosenfeld said that things have become particularly bad since the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n That was when Gavin Newsom imposed the country\u2019s first and worst shutdowns. Getty Images<\/p>\n After the pandemic, California didn\u2019t try to make life easier for restaurants. And brick-and-mortar businesses are sitting ducks.<\/p>\n Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n The second is that some legislators are, at best, wide-eyed idealists, who think that each new law imposed on California businesses moves the planet one step closer to solving climate change or global inequality.<\/p>\n The third reason is that California politicians let lawyers run wild, writing legislation that creates all kinds of ways in which business owners can be sued\u00a0by employees and by customers.<\/p>\n Florida has taken the opposite approach. No state income tax. Tort reform. A business-friendly climate.<\/p>\n And a governor who doesn\u2019t waste time on speeches<\/a> about how capitalism has failed. <\/p>\n \u201cFlorida Pizza Kitchen\u201d sounds wrong.<\/p>\n But there are other businesses being started in Florida today that should have been started here \u2014\u00a0and that could be again, if our leaders ever get their act straight.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t
