TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Dr. B.L. Perry Jr. Branch Library Saturday with a community event highlighting the library\u2019s history and its continued impact on Tallahassee\u2019s Southside.<\/p>\n
The library is named in honor of Dr. Benjamin L. Perry Jr., a community leader who served as the sixth president of Florida A&M University and dedicated years of service as a Sunday school teacher at a local church.<\/p>\n
Local leaders said the anniversary celebration was about more than commemorating the building\u2019s history. It also recognized the role the library has played in providing generations of residents with access to education, technology and community resources.<\/p>\n

Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor said the library has an important history. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe information that has come up out of this place in 25 years has made a difference,\u201d Proctor said. \u201cIn an information age, you can\u2019t fail to have a resource center that enlightens the mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event featured speakers, family-friendly activities and information about the library\u2019s many programs and resources available to the community.<\/p>\n
