Central Florida homelessness nonprofit says summer demand is draining critical supplies<\/p>\n

A Central Florida nonprofit said this summer’s relentless heat is putting a strain on its homeless outreach resources. <\/p>\n

On top of the growing demand, Matthew’s Hope said its supplies to support people without shelter and those experiencing housing insecurity have been stretched thin with just how hot it has been. <\/p>\n

Scott Billue, the founder and CEO of Matthew’s Hope, said across the Orange County and Brevard County locations, they’re helping more than 1,300 people a week. <\/p>\n

“We are literally using lines of credit to do what we do right now until things get better in the fall,” Billue said. <\/p>\n

Billue said they’re seeing more Baby Boomers needing services, along with people who have never experienced homelessness before. <\/p>\n

“We’re also seeing more children than we ever have,” Billue said. “We’re seeing a lot of folks with physical and mental disabilities that have simply outlived their caregivers, and there was no plan in place. Now, they find themselves living on the streets. So, the population is more vulnerable than ever in all the time I’ve been doing this.” <\/p>\n

The nonprofit said water and electrolyte drinks are in high demand.
