(WCTV) &#8211; Dozens of people came out Saturday for a community celebration in support of Derek Steele, son of the late civil rights activist C.K. Steele, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2026\/04\/15\/son-civil-rights-activist-derek-steele-battles-stage-four-prostate-cancer\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2026\/04\/15\/son-civil-rights-activist-derek-steele-battles-stage-four-prostate-cancer\/\">now battling prostate cancer<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Steele\u2019s daughter Raven Whitehead said the celebration was important. \u201cTo see people to come love on my papa, that means a whole lot,\u201d Whitehead said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Saturday\u2019s event doubled as a fundraiser and birthday celebration for Steele. His family says he\u2019s poured into so many people throughout his life, and they want to take time to recognize him for it. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-center\">More Tallahassee news:<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cMy uncle has always been there to say everyone is welcome under this tent,\u201d Executive Director of the C.K. Steele Institute James Davis, Jr. said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The proceeds from the fundraiser are meant to help with Steele\u2019s stage four cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cNobody wants to see their loved one go through cancer,\u201d Whitehead said. \u201cTaking care of him, I get to see that challenge every day. I get to see what he goes through every day.
