PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. \u2014 Temporary Protected Status for Haitians ends on Monday, leaving over 350,000 people without a legal right to be in the United States.<\/p>\n
Those people will be fearing deportation. <\/p>\n
They include Farah Larrieux, who has been living in South Florida since 2005, coming from Haiti in search of a better life. <\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like I\u2019m living a nightmare. It\u2019s unjust because I have dreams,\u201d she said. \u201cI felt Haiti was too small for my dreams. I was tired with the situation, political instability, crime, injustice, poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Larrieux has been a news personality, public relations and communications professional and advocate for South Florida\u2019s Haitian community.<\/p>\n
Since 2010 she has been a TPS holder. <\/p>\n
The change comes after the U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Trump administration, ending TPS programs for Haitians and thousands of Syrians. <\/p>\n
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security claims Haiti is now safe to return to while the United Nations and U.S. State Department warn of frequent gang violence and kidnapping. <\/p>\n
Larrieux says she has a clean record and she\u2019s built an entire life in South Florida which could be ripped away from her at any moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s every day, it\u2019s like a struggle to live,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s an injustice, I\u2019m wondering why I have to face that.\u201d<\/p>\n
She is talking with an attorney to try and get asylum, but like hundreds of thousands of others, all she can do is wait. <\/p>\n
